FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Question: How far do you deliver your barns? Answer: We can ship our barns only to the following states: PA, NJ, MD, DE, VA, WV, CT, NY, MA, NH, VT, RI, NC & SC.
Question: How far do you travel to assemble your modular barns? Answer: We only travel up to 300 miles to assemble and to do any on-site work. If you live over 300 miles from us, you will need to find a local contractor to do the foundation, assembly, etc. for you. Note: We can still deliver the modular barn package over 300 miles.
Question: Are your modular barns built as sturdy as most of other barns on the market? Answer: Even sturdier! In order to deliver modular barn sections, we have to built them a lot sturdier than most of the post-frame barns that are built on site. In fact, our modular barns are stick-built with oak framing which makes them even heavier and sturdier than any regular pole barn. Question: What kind of materials are used for construction? Answer: Please see Shed Construction Specifications, Modular Loft Barn Construction Specifications and Economy Barn Construction Specifications Question: There are metal barns and wooden barns available. What do you recommend? Answer: We consider wood to be the best material for horse barns because of the following characteristics: it stays cooler in summer and warmer in winter, makes the barn sturdier, virtually has no condensation, is quieter during storms, safer than metal (has less chance to injure your horse when kicked) and more durable (will not dent or puncture easily). Question: What size stalls do you recommend for horses? Answer: For smaller horses (ponies and 14-15 hands horses) 10'x10' stalls would be big enough, even though, it is always a good idea to have bigger stalls. For 16 hand horses you would need at least 12'x10' stalls (12' deep stalls such as in 12'x30' barn that would have three 12'x10' stalls). 12'x12' stalls would be the best choice for larger horses. Question: Do I need any ventilation for my barn? Answer: It is always a good idea to have some type of vents in your shed row barn such as ridge vent or gable vents. Even though you can always open windows and top halves of the Dutch doors in your barn, the heat would escape the best through the ridge vent. For metal roofs, we recommend to order double-bubble insulation under metal in order to keep the barn cooler in summer heat (this insulation helps keep the barn about 10 degrees cooler). Question: What barn sizes and options do you offer? Answer: Please see Run in shed prices and Shed row barn prices Question: What kind of roofing choices do I have? Answer: We offer 30 year asphalt architectural shingles with 8 different Roof Colors, cedar shake shingles and metal roof with choices of 20 different colors. Question: How much space do I need to provide in order for you to deliver and place the barn on our property? Answer: Please see detailed information under Delivery Question: After I place an order, how long would I have to wait for my barn to be delivered? Answer: For sheds, the waiting period is between 2-4 weeks. For modular barn kits 4-6 weeks. Question: Do you have any references? Answer: Being in business since 2001, we sold many horse barns and sheds, and we can refer you to hundreds of customers that you can contact. Please see Testimonials for some of the testimonials from our customers. Question: What kind on maintenance do your barns require? Answer: Please see Barn Maintenance
Question: What is the roof's snow load & wind load on your barns? Answer: With standard 2"x4" rafters the snow load is 35lbs. With optional 2"x6" rafters and collar ties the snow load may be increased up to 60lbs. Wind load is 90 mph, but may be increased up to 120 mph by using our "Hurricane Kit).
Question: Is foundation needed for these barns? Answer: Our barns are built on top of pressure treated 6"x6" sills (grade beams) and are built heavy (12'x36' barn weighs 13,000 lbs.), therefore, in most cases (95%), the foundation is not required, unless your local municipality would require it, in this case, we can provide you with the best and most affordable way to do the foundation for your barn, and will send you the layout and all the necessary hardware to attach your barn to the foundation. Modular horse barns and lean-to barns will always require foundation (concrete piers).
Question: What do most people use inside of stalls? Answer: Most people prefer the use of rubber mats (on top of properly prepared stone base), but some like to use clay or even regular dirt inside of their stalls.
Question: Can your barns be moved after they are in place? Answer: All of our shed rows and run in sheds come with tow hooks (one hook in each corner of barn bolted into 6x6 sill plate, 4-total). All of our barns are built, so they can be transported and relocated in the future. We don't claim that it is easy to move such heavy barns without the right equipment. It is possible to drag a small run in shed with a tractor by lifting one end of the barn and dragging it, but when it comes to a bigger barn such as 12'x36' shed row, it will be very difficult to move it by yourself. Remember, we have the right equipment to move the barn* for you. *Note: We will only move our own barns (MGC Buildings), since we know that these barns are built sturdy & braced well and will not fall apart when moving.
Question: Why should I buy from your company? Answer: We are not a start-up company and have been in business since 2001, so you can be sure, we will be there when you need us. Also, unlike most of dealers, we specialize and concentrate mostly on equine barns and equine products, which in turn, helps us to be more knowledgeable about equine industry and about yours and your horses needs. As for construction, quality of our barns (MGC Buildings) surpasses most of our competition, see "Compare Barns" for more details. In addition, by selling direct, we have the ability to save you money and provide a better built product.
